Shadowrun Returns is a cyberpunk fantasy tactical role-playing video game.
It is important to note that the campaign packed with the game release is not where it ends. As Rock, Paper, Shotgun states "what they�re actually shipping is a full-blown campaign editor and the system to easily distribute campaigns." Harebrained Schemes have released to the game community the ability to make their own campaigns, countering the modern trend of producing 'as it is' games.

Gameplay
You play the role of a Shadowrunner who has been fallen onto hard times since you stopped working with fellow runner Sam Watts. Sam sends one final message to the only runner who he knows and is still alive. His final wish and contract involve finding the Emerald City Ripper, a serial killer who has been pilfering particular organs from their victims. The Runner finds Jake Armitage (From the SNES series) and Coyote, an elf girl who wages a one woman vigilante war against the BTL (An addictive entertainment chip) trade who knew Jake and information about the killer. Their pursuit leads them to Mercy Mental Hospital, where Silas Forsberg who has assumed the role of the original owner has been harvesting parts from metahumans as well as morbidly turning them to freaks of natures for the underbelly of the Sixth world. But after killing Silas the Runner learns there is a greater power behind the Ripper. It turns out Sam's sister Jessica had been estranged with her brother as Sam was revealed to had lived a comfortable life before their father's passing. Despite Sam's best efforts to live a decent life, he cracked under pressure and spent the family savings on drugs, alcohol and other frivolous luxuries before becoming a Shadowrunner to make ends meet. Jessica later reveals she had ordered her brother's death so her mother could have a proper funeral and she could be at ease before joining the United Brotherhood, a front for the insect spirits to reach the world and begin a massive feeding frenzy. The Runner infiltrates Telestrian Industries who was working on project Aegis, a weapon capable of stemming the tide of the insect spirit but was forced to go alone as complications in the mission forced the team to split up. The Runner learned the truth behind Sam Watts and his sister was that they were both half breed children of the Telestrian bloodline but to prevent the truth of an impure bloodline was handed off to James Watts, a employee within Telestrian industries. When Jessica learned the truth of her real parents she was easily swayed by Lynette Telestrian, another member of the Telestrian Dynasty who was bent on bringing the insect spirits over. With the help of Harlequinn the Runner was able to complete Sam Watt's final wish.
